With the way, social media is changing, getting views, likes, comments, and followers on platforms such as TikTok has become a challenge for many creators. They may get frustrated because they think their videos aren’t being shown to the right people due to the algorithm, or maybe they just want to go viral. Whatever the true reason, there is another option—buying them.

The number of followers a person has on social media is always something people look at, and it’s generally one of the first things they see. Having a large number—in the millions is considered being ‘TikTok famous’—may lead to genuine success. However, there are both advantages and disadvantages to buying followers.

The Advantages of Buying Followers

  • It’s a Time Saver

Organic followers, or followers that are gained naturally by posting enjoyable content they like and engage with, can be hard to obtain. Since viral success is so tempting, people often don’t want to wait on their follower count to increase gradually. This is where buying followers is an advantage because it’s as simple as clicking a few buttons.

  • More Followers Equals More Views

TikTok’s algorithm sees people who gain followers as having more engagement. Thus, it will show that user’s content to more people. This is a way for buying followers to get around the effort needed to produce consistent content.

What Are the Disadvantages to Buying Followers?

Sadly, the idea of buying followers doesn’t come without some disadvantages. These are:

  1. It’s an expensive investment.

Buying followers, of course, costs money. Price ranges change depending on the number of followers being purchased. More followers mean a higher price. This could also be more of a long-term investment if certain requirements aren’t being met.

  • Followers aren’t always real.

Companies or individuals who offer this service may not be guaranteeing that the followers are real people. Oftentimes, those ‘followers’ are fake accounts or bots set up by the seller. While TikTok won’t ban accounts for purchasing followers, its algorithm could go through the accounts of its users and deactivate or delete inactive accounts. This could mean buying more followers, depending on the seller and creator’s preference.

  • It could become an addiction.

Most people dream of becoming famous on social media and the option to buy followers enhances that. An addiction could very easily form as a result. People who go this route should be careful not to fall into the trap of repeatedly purchasing followers.

Should People Really Buy Followers?

Ultimately, the option is there and it’s legal. People should decide for themselves whether buying followers is a good choice. The most important thing for creators to remember is that nothing is better than gaining real engagement and connecting with followers. Yes, followers can easily be purchased but the accounts could just as easily vanish or lead to more significant problems. Organic followers, on the other hand, will be loyal as long as the content being produced is what they enjoy and delivered in good quality.
